Energy Australia Stadium, formally Marathon Stadium, is situated in Newcastle and was first known as the International Sports Centre when it first opened and is still a part of the sports centre complex today. Work on the centre commenced on the 1st December 1967 and was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 10th of April 1970. The Newcastle Knights secured a lease on the stadium in 1986 and converted it into what it is today. The new Eastern Grandstand at the stadium was completed in April 2005 and contains two levels of seating for over 10,000 fans as well as a corporate suite level. Opposite the new stand is the original grandstand which includes seating for 5,000. Behind each of the goals is about 5 rows of seating, grass hill and corporate boxes. The total capacity of the ground is now 26,126 including 18,580 seats. The record ground attendance is 32,642 for a Newcastle Vs Manly Rugby League game in July 1995. As well as the Knights, EnergyAustralia Stadium is also home to the Newcatle United Jets who play in the A-League.
