The London Olympic Stadium will be home to the 2012 Olympic Games which will be held at London, England. The capacity of the stadium will be 80,000, although this will reduce to 25,000 once the games have completed.
The stadium project is to cost a total of £496m and the initial construction will take place in April 2008. The plans for the stadium have been revised since the original design and it has been confirmed that HOK Sport are the architects for project and Mc Alpine have won the construction project.
The stadium will be unique in the face that its design will feature more temporary seats than permanent seats.
A lower league football or rugby club is expected to take advantage of the facilities once the Olympic games have finished. The stadium will be used for athletics purposes, so the use of the stadium by a large team such as Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United has been ruled out.
