The stadium has had many highlights in its 45 years of existence and the 21st of April 1981 was a memorable day for the old Galgenwaard stadium. Not only was a chapter of history closed when after the FC Utrecht - PSV match the old Galgenwaard stadium was torn down by the FC Utrecht supporters, it was also the beginning of a new period with a new stadium.
The New Galgenwaard stadium was opened in 1982. At the time it was one of the most modern stadiums in the world, especially due to its beautiful moat around the pitch. After twenty years FC Utrecht was in need of expansion and renewal. The main tribune was moved to the north side and was taken into use at the beginning of the 2001 - 2002 season. The old main tribune was taken care of right after that and a year later FC Utrecht had two beautiful, impressive, new tribunes along the long side of the pitch. Last season, the tribunes along the short side of the pitch were replaced, the stadium has nearly 25,000 seats now. Since the first of January 2002, the home of FC Utrecht is called Stadion Galgenwaard.
The players come downstairs from their dressing rooms and through the concourse of the main stand, seperated from fans by glass. Quite unique!

One of the nicest stadiums I have visited in Netherlands.

Anywhere in the city is good. Forget Amsterdam and all the perverts. Utrecht is the best night out with all the pubs 'built into' the canal walls.
Due to strict controls on away support at any Dutch football match, the away allocation is limited to 1600. The away fans are located in a narrow strip onthe right hand side of the 'City Side' stand behind the goal. Section 'V' (Vak V).
Superb. The best in Holland. I was in the main stand to see Feyenoord get beat 3-1 :-(
Cheaper than anywhere in UK. I paid Eu 1-50
Vak V (Away Section) EU19
Hooftribune (Main Stand) EU31
The best organisation I have ever seen. Get the train to Utrecht Station then there are FREE buses to the satdium. Yes, they are FREE!
So hardly any cars when you get to the stadium.
